It’s been another busy month in the world of social media, particularly for those over at TikTok. The platform has now hit 1 billion monthly users which comes just 5.1 years since its launch. To put the scale of this growth into context, this is far quicker than the other app giants; Facebook (8.7 years), Whatsapp (8.5 years), Youtube (8.1 years), and Instagram (7.7 years). With TikTok stealing a lot of the social media limelight at the moment, let’s have a look at what the other social media giants are working on at the moment…
01. Link stickers are coming to ALL Instagram accounts!
We mentioned in our July Social Media Updates post that Instagram were looking at removing the swipe up feature on stories and replacing it with a sticker… That feature is now here! What’s even more promising is that they are rolling this feature out to all accounts, regardless of follower count. Whether it be linking to your latest blog, a new menu, a product page, or a booking form, the link sticker is going to be beneficial to many small businesses. 02. Facebook have released new tools for SMBs
Another win for businesses, Facebook has just released a few more tools with small businesses in mind. Firstly, they’re testing a new option that will enable businesses to make audio and video calls directly from chat streams with customers. This will help them to make communication both more seamless and also more personal. Secondly, they have been working on a new appointment booking functionality. This will allow businesses to set up appointment scheduling directly on their company’s Facebook Page and this process also syncs with Google Calendar, and other popular tools. Not only that, Facebook is also expanding its live audio rooms to selected businesses… With the run up to Christmas ahead, these tools could prove very useful for increasing your revenue over the festive season.
03. Twitter is testing ads in replies
If you run advertising on Twitter, this latest update could be great news for your ROAS, and ultimately your business. This new option could see ads displayed within the first few replies to a tweet. With this being ‘right where the conversation is happening’, this particular placement could lead to a higher reach and engagement rate for brands. If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen it yet, this format hasn’t been released and is currently only being tested. This means these ads will only be seen by certain users for the time being but it is definitely worth keeping an on your ads’ performance.
That isn’t all, here are some other key social media updates to be aware of in November 2021;
- Instagram has made more changes to their video offering. They are retiring IGTV and videos posted to feed can now be up to 60 minutes long.
- LinkedIn has launched new freelancer connection tools as well as new tools for Company Pages.
- TikTok have increased their caption length from 100 to 300 characters, and also introduced new partner integrations.
